My Art of Becoming
A Teaching Journey to Strive, Write, and Discover.
Education Mission Statement:
To strive as a lifelong learner, emerging leader, and mentor by encouraging and exposing students and fellow educators to innovative ideas and solution-based thinking that promote and locally connect student achievement and preparation for global competitiveness and educational excellence.
About Edith Middleton...
“Education is not only a passion but an absolute way of life for me. It is the value that I attribute to my rescue from my Transylvanian orphanage at the age of ten, and the beacon that has guided every aspect of my life.”
Edith currently teaches Senior English, and AP Composition & Literature at King Kekaulike High School (KKHS) on the island of Maui in the state of Hawai'i. In addition, Edith advises the KKHS Global Book Club (a PAAC Club), the KKHS Journalism/Creative Writing Club, facilitates teacher support groups, and serves as various faculty proxies for union and academic committees.
Ms. Middleton is a certified English teacher in both Hawai’i and Connecticut with over ten years of classroom teaching and youth coaching experience. She holds a Bachelors in Psychology and English from The University of Connecticut, a Masters in the Art of Secondary English Education from Sacred Heart University, and a Masters in The Teaching of English from Teachers College, Columbia University.
I strive to learn through fellowship opportunities. As a Pulitzer Center Fellow, I love to collaborate and brainstorm units of instruction with educators and journalists to create lessons plans that highlight perspective and underreported issues. The Hawai'i State Teacher Fellowship empowered me to finally publish and collaborate with statewide Hawaiian educators and policymakers about education policies and practices. My lifelong dream of a Fulbright scholarship came to fruition from a sudden fear driven Covid-19 propulsion application. In all honesty, this site would not be possible without the Fulbright capstone requirement; another incredible byproduct of this most awe inspiring fellowship.
